Questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own computer. The page sends nothing about your file anywhere, and nothing is stored or logged.
Is the Word to Markdown converter free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many files you convert.
What does it keep from Word?
Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, strikethrough, bullet and numbered lists, tables and links. Page layout, fonts, colors and comments are left out, because Markdown has no place for them.
What happens to images?
Each image becomes a short [image] note, with its alt text when the file has one. The picture itself is not copied, so the Markdown stays small. Add the picture back in your editor.
Can it open an old .doc file?
No. It reads .docx files only. Open the .doc file in Word or another word processor, save it as .docx, then open that file here.
