Sashmark Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 6, 2026 Last updated: October 19, 2026
Sashmark is in development and is not yet available to download or buy. The parts of this policy about the Site apply now; the parts about the App and buying Sashmark apply once it is.
This policy explains what information YOB Holdings LLC ("we", "us") collects through sashmark.com (the "Site") and the Sashmark desktop app (the "App"), and what we do with it.
The short version:
- The App will not send your files to us, and it will have no telemetry, usage analytics, or crash reports. Your files will stay on your computer.
- The App is designed to make two kinds of network calls: a license check and an update check. Both are described below as planned for release; they are not built yet.
- The Site uses a web analytics service to see how visitors use it. The Site's analytics does not use cookies.
- Gumroad will handle payment. We will never see your card number.
1. The App
What stays on your computer
Your Markdown files will never leave your computer because of the App. The App will store its own data in its own folder on your computer. That will include your settings, open tabs, and "Seen Snapshots" (saved copies of a file's content from the last time you marked it seen, used to show what changed). Once licensing is built, it will also store your license status and the App's random install code there. The install code will stay on your device. We will not be able to see this local data, and you will be able to delete it by removing the App's data folder. Removing the folder will also remove your license status, so you will need to activate your license key again, and that activation will count as a new use and may use a new device slot (see the EULA). The help docs will show where this folder is on each system. Your license key and product ID will also be sent to Gumroad as described in the licensing section below.
What the App will not do
The App will not send us telemetry, usage analytics, or crash reports. It will not fetch remote images inside your documents; it will show a placeholder with the link instead. When you click a web link in a document, it will open in your normal web browser, and that site's own privacy policy will apply.
License check (planned)
This section and the next describe how the App is designed to work at release. These features are not built yet.
If you enter a license key, the App will contact Gumroad, our planned sales channel, to activate it. After that, it will re-check the key about every 7 days. On first launch, the App will make a random install code. The install code will not be tied to your hardware. It will stay on your device: it will not be sent to Gumroad or to us, and we will keep no copy. The App will use the install code, on your device only, to decide when a device slot is counted: the first activation with a new install code will count one use with Gumroad, while re-entering the key on a device that already has an active install code, and the 7-day re-checks, will not. The activation and each license check will send your license key and the product ID. Like any internet request, it will also reveal your IP address to Gumroad, and Gumroad's own privacy policy covers what it logs. Gumroad will use this to tell the App whether the key is valid, how many times it has been activated, and whether the purchase was refunded or the key turned off.
A license key will not be tied to a user account. The App will have no accounts.
Update check (planned)
The App will check sashmark.com for new versions when it starts and once a day while running. If an update exists, it will download it from sashmark.com. The update check will send no user, device, or license data. Like any internet request, our hosting provider will be able to see your IP address and basic request details (such as the time and the App's request headers). You will be able to turn the automatic check off in settings.
2. The Site
Analytics
We use these services to understand how people find and use the Site:
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Web analytics provider | Two events: a page view, and "contact form sent" (without the form's contents). Each event carries the page address (without any query string or fragment), the referring page (also without a query string), your browser's user-agent string and language, and your screen and window size. Clicks are not tracked. The provider may work out an approximate location from your IP address. |
| Google Search Console | Reports on how the Site appears in Google search. It gives us totals, not data about you as a person. |
The Site's analytics does not use cookies or browser storage and does not build a profile of you. Session recording and heatmaps are off.
We do not use the analytics data to identify you by name.
Hosting
The Site is hosted on Vercel. The App's update files are planned to be hosted there too. Vercel processes request data such as IP addresses to serve the Site and keep it secure.
3. Buying Sashmark
Purchases will go through Gumroad, which will be the merchant of record. Gumroad will collect your payment details, billing information, and email address, and will handle sales tax and VAT. Gumroad's privacy policy covers that.
Gumroad will share some order information with us so we can support your license, such as your email address, the product bought, the date, the license key, and refund status. We will never receive your full card number.
4. Messages to us
If you write to us through the contact form at sashmark.com/contact, we keep your name, email address and message, plus the page you sent it from and the page that referred you to the Site, so we can answer you and keep a record. The form files your message in our work-tracking tool.
5. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- once the App is released, sell and activate licenses (each new install code will use one device slot; the code itself will stay on your device), handle refunds, and, where we can, help with device slots;
- once the App is released, deliver App updates;
- answer messages sent through the contact form;
- understand and improve the Site;
- keep the Site secure and stop abuse, and once the App is released, keep licenses secure;
- meet legal and tax duties.
6. Who we share it with
We share information only with the service providers described in this policy (our sales channel once the App is on sale, hosting, web analytics, and contact-form tools) so they can do their jobs for us, and when the law requires it. If the business is sold or reorganized, the information may move to the new owner under this policy.
We do not sell your personal information.
7. How long we keep it
We keep contact-form messages as long as needed to answer them and keep a support record, and analytics data for the retention period set in our analytics tool. We will keep order records as long as tax law requires. The App's random install code will stay on your device, and we will keep no copy. The license key and product ID will go to Gumroad inside the license check, and Gumroad will hold them under its own privacy policy.
8. Your choices and rights
- Analytics: you can use a tracker blocker to stop the Site's analytics.
- Updates (planned): you will be able to turn off the App's automatic update check.
- Access, correction, deletion: you can ask us to show, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you through the contact form at sashmark.com/contact. We will answer as the law where you live requires. We may need to confirm it is you first. Some data we will have to keep, such as order records for tax.
- Depending on where you live, you may have more rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.
9. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. No method is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee security. App updates are planned to be checked against a signing key before they install.
10. International transfers
We are based in the United States. Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries.
11. Children
The Site and the App are not aimed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, tell us through the contact form at sashmark.com/contact. We will look into it and delete the information where the law requires.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date. If a change is material, we will post a notice on the Site before it takes effect.
