Help
Sashmark is in development. Nothing has been released yet, and there is no public build. These pages describe the development build. See the roadmap for what is still planned.
Opening a file
The ways to open a Markdown file in Skimmark, and what the messages mean when a file will not open.
Reading a file
How Skimmark shows a Markdown file, its images and links, and what it does not do yet.
Tabs
How Skimmark shows each open file as a tab, how to switch and close tabs, the keyboard shortcuts, how tabs come back after you quit, and the optional recent documents list.
When a file changes on disk
How Skimmark notices that an open file was changed, replaced, moved, or deleted by another app or an AI agent, and how the tab updates.
Seeing what changed
Turn on Changes to highlight what changed in a file since its seen version. Added and changed parts get a bar, a + or ~ sign and a tint; removed parts get a marker you can open.
What "seen" means
Skimmark remembers each file as you last saw it, so it can later show what changed since. Where that copy lives and why it stays on your computer.
Mark as seen
After you read what changed, press Seen (or Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+D) to make the version on screen the new seen version. Tabs whose file changed since then show a ~ sign.
How Skimmark saves a file
What Skimmark promises when it writes a file: it never overwrites an agent's change you haven't seen, never leaves a half-written file, and keeps your line endings.
When editing is off
Skimmark only lets you edit text it can save without changing any other line. It checks every file when it opens and again on every update, and turns editing off for the parts, or the whole file, it cannot save safely.
Show a file in its folder and copy its path
Open the folder of the file you are reading with the file selected, or copy the file's full path, from the tab menu, the path line, the command palette, or a shortcut.
The skimmark command
Install the skimmark terminal command on Mac, Windows, or Linux and use it to open files from a terminal.
When an agent changes a file you are editing
What happens when a file with unsaved edits changes on disk, and how Keep mine and Load theirs decide which version wins.
