Sashmark

Markdown to HTML converter

Paste Markdown or open a .md file, and get the HTML code for it. Headings, lists, links, images, quotes and code become HTML tags. Copy the HTML or save it as a .html page. It is free and runs in your browser.

Your file stays on your computer. The conversion runs in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.

Markdown to HTML conversion turns the plain-text marks Markdown uses, such as a # for a heading or ** around bold text, into the HTML tags a web page uses, such as <h1> and <strong>.

How to convert Markdown to HTML

  1. Paste your Markdown in the box, or choose Open a .md file, or drop the file on the box.
  2. Check the HTML code and the preview under it. They change as you edit the Markdown.
  3. Choose Copy HTML to paste the code into a page, or Save as .html for a whole page. Your browser saves the file.
  4. Open the .html file in any browser, or paste the code into your site.

Questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own computer. The page sends nothing about your file anywhere, and nothing is stored or logged.

Is the Markdown to HTML converter free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many files you convert.

What is the difference between Copy HTML and Save as .html?

Copy HTML copies only the code for your text, ready to paste into a page you already have. Save as .html saves a whole page with that code and a small readable style, which opens in any browser.

What happens to images and links?

An image becomes an image tag with its description and address, and a link becomes a link tag. A link or image whose address would run code keeps only its text. A picture stored inside the Markdown itself keeps only its description.

What happens to HTML I wrote inside the Markdown?

It is kept as text, not as tags, so the HTML you copy never carries a script. The preview on this page shows it as text too and never loads images.

Is there a size limit?

Yes. Markdown over 5 MB is refused, and a file that takes more than two seconds to convert shows a message instead of HTML.

What is Sashmark?

A Markdown reader and editor for macOS, Windows and Linux, in development, at a planned $14.99 one-time.
