A product description answers a small set of questions about one item on its product page. What is it? Who is it for? What does it do, and what comes with it? This reusable Markdown product description template gives those answers room in a single file, followed by care or use notes.

Write from the product itself. A name alone may leave the reader guessing whether an item is a pouch, a container or a kit. The opening summary supplies that missing context before the description moves into details. For background on this ending, consult [the .md explanation](what-is-a-md-file.md).

## One item in clear terms

Keep the description centered on the item someone is considering. The summary identifies its kind and intended user; the next paragraph explains its function. Sentences about the included pieces tell the reader what the product comprises. Care or use notes explain relevant limits and handling.

The description can stand apart from the rest of a product page. Leave the seller's wider business and event stories for other writing. Someone reading this file should be able to picture the item and understand its intended use from these paragraphs alone.

## The empty product description

Begin a single product's description with the block below. Replace each bracketed passage with words about that item. The product name becomes the heading; the sentence immediately beneath it is the one-line summary.

```markdown
# [Product name]
[Product name] is a [kind of product] for [people and their intended use].
## What it does
[Describe the product's function in a short paragraph. Explain the relevant material or construction and how the person uses it.]
## What is included
[State the quantity and identity of the included items in a few plain sentences. Clarify whether an item mentioned during the use description is included.]
## Care and use
[Give relevant handling or care instructions. State a limit that matters to the intended use, using details you can verify.]
```

Use the opening sentence to name both the object and the person it serves. A cotton pouch for people carrying small sewing supplies gives the reader a concrete starting point. The function paragraph can then explain its closure and how it holds those supplies without repeating the whole summary.

An empty line marks each paragraph boundary here, including after a single-sentence paragraph. The explanation of [Markdown paragraph spacing](markdown-paragraphs-blank-lines.md) covers that gap. Within the description, those gaps separate the summary, function, included items and care instructions.

## A fictional Doe cotton pouch

In this example, fictional seller Jane Doe offers the fictional Doe Cotton Pouch. Its construction and handling instructions were made up along with the item. They illustrate a filled description; use the facts of your own product when adapting the empty block.

```markdown
# Doe Cotton Pouch
The Doe Cotton Pouch is a drawstring cotton bag for people carrying small sewing supplies between rooms.
## What it does
The pouch holds spools of thread and folded fabric pieces in one compartment. Pulling the two cord ends draws the opening together. The unlined cotton body folds flat when empty. Jane Doe sells this pouch as a small bag for dry supplies.
## What is included
One cotton pouch with an attached cotton drawstring is included. Thread, fabric and sewing tools are not included.
## Care and use
Wash by hand in cool water and let the pouch air dry. Put sharp sewing tools in a separate protective case before placing them inside. The pouch has no padding and is not intended to protect fragile objects.
```

The summary gives the pouch a specific use: carrying sewing supplies between rooms. Its function paragraph describes one compartment, a drawstring and a body that folds flat. These details explain the object without requiring the reader to infer what an unfamiliar product name means.

The included-items paragraph resolves a question raised by the function paragraph. Thread and fabric illustrate what the pouch can hold, but they are excluded from the item being described. The attached cord belongs to the pouch. That distinction matters even when a description contains only a few sentences.

## Claims a reader can verify

Describe what you can establish about the actual product. A statement about one compartment can be compared with the item. A statement about cotton requires knowledge of its material. If a detail is uncertain, establish it before adding it to the description; don't turn a guess into a product fact.

Broad praise leaves more work for the reader. Calling a pouch outstanding doesn't explain its closure, capacity or construction. Naming the drawstring tells someone how it closes. A description earns its specificity through relevant details, with each sentence answering a question about that same item.

Avoid extending a physical detail into an unsupported promise. A bag holding supplies does not establish that those supplies will remain undamaged in every situation. In the fictional example, the care paragraph identifies the absence of padding and explains the need for a protective case around sharp tools. Those limits belong beside the intended use.

## Care belongs with the product

Write care instructions for the material and construction actually used. The fictional pouch has a hand-washing instruction and an air-drying instruction. Another item may need different handling. Copying those sentences unchanged would attach invented guidance to a different product.

Use this space for the limits someone needs while handling the item. Keep the wording direct enough to act on, without stretching the description into a long account of unrelated uses. Where an instruction depends on a detail such as a coating or lining, confirm that detail for the item being described.

## A filename tied to the item

For this invented pouch, `doe-cotton-pouch-description.md` keeps the product identity visible in the filename. A second product gets its own description file and its own item details. See [naming a Markdown file](markdown-file-naming.md) for lowercase words joined with hyphens.

Keeping the item name in the filename also distinguishes the description from other writing about the same product. The file holds the wording for that item's product page, with its summary, function, included pieces and care together.

## Where Sashmark fits

Sashmark's desktop plan pairs a Markdown reader with editing. With Sashmark still in development, this remains a plan. The product facts and care instructions in a description come from the seller.
